Examination Framework
The Institute maintains a structured Professional Examination Scheme as a mandatory requirement for progression across membership grades. This ensures that every Chartered Professional possesses the requisite competencies in local governance, public administration, and ethical leadership.
Examination Structure
The Professional Examination Scheme is structured into the following levels, corresponding to membership progression:
Associate Professional Level
Required for upgrade to Associate Member (ACILGD).
Membership Professional Level
Required for upgrade to Full Member (MCILGD).
Fellowship Professional Assessment
May include written examination, peer review, and professional interview. Required for upgrade to Fellow (FCILGD).

Administration & Frequency
To ensure global accessibility, Professional Examinations are conducted twice in each calendar year. The Institute administers these examinations either physically at designated centers or through secure digital platforms.
First Sitting
- Registration: March
- Examination: May
Second Sitting
- Registration: July
- Examination: October
Note: A candidate must obtain a minimum pass mark of sixty percent (60%) to qualify for progression. No Member shall be admitted into a higher membership grade without successfully meeting the examination requirement, alongside academic and professional experience criteria.
